You know, I don't think Roland ever warmed up to the idea of people using their hardware to play other peoples sounds. Roland has always been just as proud of their sounds, as they have been of their hardware.
I know many users would like to access their Akai sounds from their Roland gear, but it seems like Roland doesn't want to facilitate it.

1)well if there's some good translator we wil be able to open the door to the other formats to our sweet fantom.
chycksys translator/cdxtract/awave studio/extreme sample translator.
which one of this i mentioned is able to convert..i don't know
from..halion/kontakt/gig. to roland format ?
fantom convertor. it's a nice help don't you think?
2)then my second doubt. WHERE we will be able to record our 8 stereo tracks.. on the PC CARD?or the usb..will be upgraded makin' possible to use external hard disks?
please can you answer these 2 questions?
thanksss

I don't think this thing is going to be all that exciting. It's not an audio recorder, but merely a way to incorporate previously recorded audio samples into your compositions more efficiently. The last paragraph below is the kicker. It's not what I was hoping for anyway.
From the Roland FAQ:
The Fantom-X Audio Track Expansion adds eight linear stereo audio tracks to the Fantom-X6/-X7/-X8's sequencer. Using these audio tracks, you can directly edit recorded or imported audio phrases in a song, allowing you to treat samples of vocals or guitars as if they were tracks recorded in a digital audio recorder.
Unlike sequence-triggered samples, the new audio tracks can be played back from any point within the song, and can be synchronized perfectly with the MIDI tracks, thanks to realtime time-stretching.
For your reference:
The audio tracks don't record the sample (wave data) itself--they record sample events, which provide sample-playback information to the internal sequencer(See Fig.3 Song structure). This is an efficient use of memory, especially when several tracks share the same sample.

This is a great thing for me because now I can just plug in my guitar and just record away instead of having to sample it , which makes it alot easier. I just wonder how much does it cost.

I know I'll end up buying it, but it does annoy me that a lot of the cost is for the CF card and adaptor. I already have a 1Gb CF card and adaptor and don't need another one. especially since the details suggest the OS2 upgrade is on the CD.

From Roland's write-up:
" It's also possible to output a Skip Back sample to an audio track."
Would that allow you to jam along to your sequence and then skip-back sample just the external sound and then pop it in as a track. If so, is this not almost as good as "direct recording of audio tracks"?
